  • Aquamarine is a captivating gemstone known for its tranquil blue color, reminiscent of the clear waters of the ocean. It belongs to the beryl family of minerals, making it a close relative of emerald and morganite. The name "aquamarine" is derived from the Latin words for "water" and "sea," reflecting its serene blue hue. Aquamarine's color can range from pale blue to deep blue-green, with some stones exhibiting a slight greenish tint. This gemstone's color is typically caused by traces of iron within its crystal structure. Aquamarine is prized for its clarity and transparency, often displaying few inclusions and excellent brilliance when cut and polished. Major sources of aquamarine include Brazil, Madagascar, and Pakistan, with Santa Maria de Itabira, Brazil being renowned for producing some of the finest specimens, including the highly coveted Santa Maria aquamarine.

Santa Maria Aquamarine was first discovered in the Santa Maria de Itabira mine in Brazil, where mining has been ongoing for nearly three centuries is renowned for its deep blue color, a standout among aquamarines.
