Spinel, a magnesium-aluminum oxide, was often mistaken for ruby or sapphire until its distinct characteristics were discovered in 1783. Originating from Asia and the Middle East, gem-quality spinel is now found worldwide, particularly in Myanmar. Spinel’s color varies based on trace elements, plum spinel has chromium and vanadium which causes red hues and iron causing magenta and purple hues. Plum spinel can also show red and orange fluorescence. The gem is associated with the 22nd wedding anniversary.

Use a soft cloth to gently wipe clean the item you wish to clean. Remove any remaining impurities with mild diluted soap. Rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly before storing away. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steamers or ultrasonic machines. Do not submerge or clean any of our gemstones with liquid cleaners.
